Floods kill 130, drive thousands from homes in Southeast Asia

This article talks about how so many people died from the flood in Asia. People are still missing from this huge flood. Most of them lost their homes which leads to loosing their lives. They lost everything including family members. Reading this article scared me because it was sad to hear that most of them do not have any homes anymore. No place to sleep, eat, change, go to the bathroom, or even a place to be warm or cool from the heat or the cold. The nice thing i read in this article was that people from other places are trying their best to help them get a home and get them the things that they need in order to survive in life. I hope as the days go on, they will eventually find the missing people to get their families back rather than their home. Family always come first.


World's tallest woman remembered

I could not believe reading the newspaper hearing that there is woman out in this world that is seven feet seven inches! Reading that totally opened up my eyes! I was telling myself that she would be the world's best basketball player. Reading the newspaper always has it's pros and cons. Nothing is ever perfect. There will always be problems all over the world no matter what and that is okay because it is normal. It could always be worse. I was a lot more interesting in this article than the flood one because I have heard about flood problems before. Everyday I always learn something new.

A Man Named Dick Gregory...

Gregory, Richard Claxton Dick (Born, October 12, 1932, St. Louis, Mo.), African American comedian and civil rights activist whose social satire changed the way white Americans perceived African American comedians since he first performed in public.Dick Gregory entered the national comedy scene in 1961 when Chicagos Playboy Club (as a direct request from publisher Hugh Hefner) booked him as a replacement for white comedian, Professor Irwin Corey. Until then Gregory had worked mostly at small clubs with predominantly black audiences (he met his wife, Lillian Smith, at one such club). Such clubs paid comedians an average of five dollars per night; thus Gregory also held a day job as a postal employee. His tenure as a replacement for Corey was so successful at one performance he won over an audience that included southern white convention goers that the Playboy Club offered him a contract extension from several weeks to three years. By 1962 Gregory had become a nationally known headline performer, selling out nightclubs, making numerous national television appearances, and recording popular comedy albums.Its important to note that no biography of Gregory would be complete without mentioning that he and his beloved wife, Lil, had ten kids who have become highly respected members of the national community in a variety of fields. They are: Michele, Lynne, Pamela, Paula, Stephanie (aka Xenobia), Gregory, Christian, Miss, Ayanna and Yohance. I personally believe that Gregory was a wonderful man with a great open heart. He had a great sense of humor that would always make other people's day. He looked at life as a good thing, always thought about good things and how other people should considered themselves lucky if they are surrounded by love. If you are ever having a bad day, he is the person you would want to be with because your lonely day would turn into a laughter day!

Here's to Your Health...

On Thursday, Instructor Sweet read to the class an article called Here's to Your Health by Joan Dunayer. This article was mainly about alcohol and how it can affect human beings in several different ways. I do agree with Joan Dunayer a lot in this article. On the other hand, she does have some points which I do not agree on. People tend to have a lot of different opinions on drinking and how it can treat people. In this world that we live in today has a lot of advertising. When people see advertising, they get into it that it makes them want to be a part of that advertiser. An example of an advertiser for girls especially is tanning. When young girls see a girl that is tanned, then they want to be a part of that as well. When they see a lot of people doing the same things, then they want to be a part of that as well. In order to be right about anything in life, you have to researched the facts and see what is true and what is not true. Dunayer's essay is more one-sided rather than balanced. She makes her points and thinks that what she says is right. She could have added other people's opinions and see what they have to say about her points. She makes the essay sound like it is all her thoughts and that her thoughts are the true facts, which can be. Everyone belives in different things in life.

All about Richard Nixon...

Richard Milhous Nixon (January 9, 1913–April 22, 1994) was the thirty-seventh President of the United States (1969–1974) and the only American president to resign the office. After obtaining a degree at Duke University Law School, Nixon returned to Whittier where he joined the law firm of Krupp & Bewley. In 1937 he moved to Washington where he served in the Office of Price Administration. Nixon was born in Yorba Linda, California and developed an interest in music. During World War II, Nixon served as a Navy lieutenant commander in the Pacific. In 1950, he won a Senate seat. Two years later, General Eisenhower selected Nixon, age 39, to be his running mate. His accomplishments while in office included revenue sharing, the end of the draft, new anticrime laws, and a broad environmental program. In his last years, Nixon gained praise as an elder statesman. By the time of his death on April 22, 1994, he had written numerous books on his experiences in public life and on foreign policy. From all the information i have read on Richard Nixon, I personally find him a good president. He tried his best on making the country a safe place to live. He did have some cons as well during his presidency time. Overall, he was one of the best presidents to have in the United States of America.

Jack rhymes with back and it bascially means not to ever come back to the person again. I like the song becuase I like the way it sounds and how there are words that rhyme with each other. The beat to this song sounds pretty amazing as well. Sometimes in life you are going to love someone that you know that you will always want. You know in the longer run that the person is not worth your time to come back in your life. Whenever you do not want someone back in your life, you can always sing the "Hit the Road Jack."

Hey Everyone!
My name is Kelly McGrath. This is my first new blog. I am taking two courses at Northshore Community College for the summer to improve my writing and reading skills. I am nineteen years old. I currently live in Everett. I just graduated from Wakefield Memorial High School about a month ago. I decided to take two courses in the summer because then I will be able to take higher courses in the fall. I plan on applying for the Occupational Therapy Assistant's Program in the fall of 2009. I love to help people more than anything, it is one of my passion. I hope you enjoyed my first blog!
